As smartphones and other wireless technologies multiply, so do the cellular antennas and other telecommunications devices that make them possible. Where these devices are found, so is the potential for exposure to harmful levels of RF (radiofrequency) radiation. Working with employers and labor organizations in several at-risk trades, CPWR developed a newRF Radiation Awareness Program for the Construction Industry. A product of CPWR's Roofing r2p Partnership and the labor-management RF Radiation Work Group, the program includes a summary of current research on the risk, information on identifying hazards and preventing exposure, and educational materials that can be tailored for workers and employers. Program materials are available for download from theCPWR website.
TOOLS FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH
Silica Hazard Alert: Now en español!
Now that OSHA's new silica standard has hit the streets, a growing number of construction safety professionals and apprenticeship instructors have asked us for Spanish-language materials on the hazard. CPWR is pleased to share a new Spanish-language version of our popular Hazard Alert on Silica. These pocket brochures are sturdy, water-resistant and available upon request: email firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Building and Testing a "Leading Indicator" Safety Program
For some years, a CPWR-supported research team in Massachusetts has worked to develop Building Safety for Everyone, a safety incentive program based on leading rather than lagging indicators. Building Safety for Everyone recognizes and rewards safe work practices -- and is highly efficient because it builds on elements of a firm's existing safety management program. Curious? CPWR has a one-page summary of Improving safety climate through a communication and recognition program for construction: a mixed methods study. The complete study is found in The Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health.
