April 28, 2018: Workers' Memorial Day
On April 28, we join with others around the world in marking Workers' Memorial Day, a day of remembrance for those who have died on the job. Sadly, in the U.S. more than 5,000 workers lost their lives to work-related injuries in 2016. Construction falls claimed 388 of those lives.
The 28th is also a day to consider ways we can join forces to prevent future deaths. One opportunity is to join the campaign to stop construction falls and participate in the upcoming National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls the week of May 7th.
While CPWR, NIOSH, and OSHA have been leading the campaign for seven years, this year marks the fifth year of the National Safety Stand-Down, a week devoted to drawing attention to the leading killer of construction workers. Construction contractors, labor unions, and other organizations are called on to take a moment and pause work to conduct toolbox talks, safety audits, equipment demonstrations, and other activities to promote fall hazard awareness and fall prevention.
This May, please join the fight to stop falls and Stand-Down!
