Communities of practice bring together researchers and industry stakeholders with a shared interest in addressing a specific hazard facing the construction industry. Such groups share expertise, lessons learned, and approaches for solving a challenge facing the industry. This collaborative framework provides platform to exchange research findings, discuss research underway, and identify how to promote use of the findings and solutions with the target audiences.
We are currently facilitating a community of practice with a group of researchers, safety and health professionals, insurance representatives, and other industry stakeholders around construction ergonomic hazards & solutions. Their work has led to the development of pilot social marketing program, Best Built Plans, which is designed engage contractors, workers, trainers and other industry stakeholders in activities to reduce manual materials handling and related risks.
